“We are prepared to join the men in every
decision making and community development
process about our natural heritage and resources”
The Foundation for Community Initiatives (FCI) was founded in 2004 as a community based organization in Grand Bassa County, Liberia, by a group of trained development workers and human rights activists trained by Development Education Network – Liberia (DEN-L). The Development Education Network-Liberia (DEN-L) runs the “Development Education Leadership Teams in Actions” (DELTA) Training, which provides leadership, development and advocacy training for NGOs in Liberia.
FCI was founded to institutionalize women in leadership position at all levels and showcase women’s ingenuity in building and leading an indigenous women institution that is focused on Women Empowerment, Peace Building, Conflict Resolution and Leadership and Governance Issues, especially in the Natural Resource Management (NRM) Sector.
In 2005, The Foundation for Community Initiatives (FCI) was registered and incorporated under the Association Law of the Republic of Liberia as a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization to legally carry on its mission nationally in Liberia.
In 2015, FCI was accredited by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning as a national NGO with the right to operate in Liberia. This accreditation is subject to renewal every year.
In 2016, the Foundation for Community Initiatives (FCI) was awarded a clearance from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to carried out activities in Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), which led to the constructing/renovating of two (2) safe homes in Grand Gedeh and Sinoe Counties.
Also in 2016, the Foundation for Community Initiatives (FCI) was awarded a certificate from the National Elections Commission (NEC) to conduct Civic Voter Awareness.
